Coffins, Shrouds, and Stones PDF Print E-mail

Coffins:

We request that coffins be made from locally produced timber. You may call a local woodworker or cabinetmaker or make your own. Please don’t make a coffin from plywood or chipboard.

Funeral homes usually stock shrouds for Jewish and Muslim burials.

Stone markers:

You are not required to provide a stone marker. If you need help setting it, you may hire our caretaker to help you.

Gary Bush (607 227 4886) or Larry Weaver (Glenside Monument; 607 273 4522) can engrave stones.

Gary can work with fieldstones, which we prefer. Just the perfect stone may turn up when the grave is dug or closed in. Or perhaps you have one in an old stonewall or even your patio that you’d like to use.

Larry needs a flat surface to work with. Finger Lakes Stone (607 273 4646) sells quarried seconds suitable for Larry’s work.

If you live outside our area, you may arrange for our caretaker to find a natural stone, take it to the engraver, and set it. Or Gary Bush may be willing to choose a stone for you. You might find an engraver in your area, too.

Stones may be any length or width but the area (length times width) must be under 400 square inches.
